Company Culture

The Costco Wholesale Company Culture can be summarized by four words,

DOING THE RIGHT THING!

Why do we obey the law? (Ethic #1) Because that is the Right Thing To Do!

Why do we take care of our members? (Ethic #2) Because this is the Right Thing To Do!

Why do we take care of our employees? (Ethic #3) Because it's the Right Thing To Do!

Why do we respect our vendors? (Ethic #4) Because this is doing the right thing!

Why do we reward our shareholders? Because that is doing the right thing!

Costco Culture encompasses all areas of our business, employees, members, vendors, suppliers, and even nations.

A steadfast adherence to a strong ethical company culture is the reason for Costco's growth and success.

We must maintain a steadfast and immoveable dedication to our ethics and culture in order to continue our future success.

The Ronald Rothman Workplan

From 1984 - 2002 Mr Ronald Rothman was a director in Costco's Human Resources department.

Mr Rothman directed his team to devise a plan to increase equality and diversity amongst employees.

Unfortunately, in 2002 Mr Ronald Rothman passed away.

In honor of Mr Ronald Rothman, Costco officially named the program, The Rothman Workplan.

To this day most of the global companies listed in the Forbes 500 list, have adopted The Rothman Workplan in one form or another.

Journey's For All Membership/Advocate

If you are asking yourself what the Journey’s For All program is, no worries, you are not alone. The year 2012 is when I first heard of the Journey’s Net program. The incoming General Manager at that time had suggested that I learn about Journey’s Net. However, back then I figured I could always learn about Journey’s later.

Fast forward to 2014. I started learning about the Journey’s Net program. I went to the Journeysnet.com web page, I read the  first couple of paragraphs and quickly applied to join the community. In 2014, I was able to join the Journey’s Net community with the title of “Advocate”.

In 2015 I signed up for my first “in person” meeting within the Journey’s Net community. Through the Journey’s Net meetings I was able to meet, ask questions and connect with leaders like Mrs Alison Francis, Mr Yoram Rubanenko, Mrs Wendy Davis, Mr Greg Carter, Mr Patrick Bergeron, Mr Aldyn Royce (retired) Mrs Jacqueline Lartey, Mr Delroy Whittock, Mr Gabe Vargas, as well as other regional managers, executives, etc.

Since 2020, Journey’s Net has been updated and is now named Journey’s For All. The Journey’s team has gathered together all the recordings, teachings, recommendations and most in person meetings and made these available in their online library for all employees. At the moment, attending a Journey’s meeting in person is not paid by Costco, however the knowledge, the experience, the connections and the bonds that are made in these sessions are of utmost value for your personal and career development (in my opinion).

In conclusion, joining the Journey’s For All community of leaders is an imperative, crucial, beneficial step that will have positive and long lasting effects in your life and career. Mentors offer support, guidance, encouragement, advocacy and ideas which develop important skills, knowledge and connections. The Journey's community will help you achieve personal advancement, expand professional networks, and experience a sense of fulfillment and satisfaction. If you wish to grow and succeed in your career, personal life, or both, then Journey’s For All is a most valuable resource available to you. Ask your manager how you can attend the next local meeting or find us at our web page journeysnet.com
